Key English Test (KET) and Key English Test for Schools (KET fS)

The certificate given on the Key English Test (KET) exam is accepted all over the world as an indicator corresponding to the A2 (Elementary) level of the English language on the CEFR scale. KET exam is intended for candidates over 16 years of age.

KET for Schools is a version of the KET exam designed for school students over the age of 12. Although the difficulty level of this version is the same as the KET exam, the topics it covers are suitable for the interest of 12-17 year old students. The following facts about the structure of the exam, the exam results and the obtained certificate remain unchanged.

Passing the KET (Key English Test) exam means that you:

Understands basic phrases and expressions and can use them correctly;
You understand and can answer simple questions;
Understands relatively slow and fluent speech and can communicate in the same way;
You can write short and simple content.
KET exam structure

The Key English Test (KET) exam consists of 3 parts:

Reading and writing – 1 hour and 10 minutes
It tests how well you understand simple texts (brochures, newspapers and magazines).
Listening - 30 minutes
It tests how well you understand oral speech about everyday topics at a slow speed.
Talk – about 10 minutes
It tests your ability to ask simple questions and answer similar questions. Two students participate in the speaking exam at the same time. This allows the exam to be closer to the real situation and a more objective assessment of your speaking skills.

KET exam results

Distinction - in some cases, the language level of the students taking the KET exam is higher than the A2 (Elementary) level required for the exam. In this case, they are awarded a Distinction certificate and the certificate indicates the student's level of English, one level above, B1.
Merit (Intermediate) and Pass (Acceptable) - In most cases, the language level of students who take the KET exam is A2 (Elementary) and they are given a certificate of Merit (Intermediate) or Pass (Acceptable) according to the result of the exam.

KET Certificate

KET Certificate is unlimited.
KET fS Certificate is valid until the candidate reaches 17 years of age.
